Proud Mary
Tina Turner made dozens of songs about her life and surroundings, but the song that connected to me the most was about a women who had an average life. She went to different towns and city but never saw the good side of town Until she went on a boat ride on the riverboat queen and found out how nice and wonderful the good side of the city is. This song is called "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner. It was made in 1968. I chose this song because It related to me and the book I'm reading in several ways.
When she says, "Never saw the good side of the city till I hitched a ride on the river boat Queens". I think it relates to how Austin in this book is separated into two sections east Austin, Where Armpit lives, being the bad side, And the west side, Being the good side of the city. Also I think her hitching a ride on the river boat is how Armpit got caught by the current. But this was a good thing. Like how she met very nice people on the river, Armpit wouldn't of met good friends to, like Kaira, Newberg and Fred.
" Left a good job down in the city, Working for the man every night and day, And never lost one minute of sleep, Worrying 'bout the way things might of been" This relates to her life. How she left a good job to become a famous singer and the man she is working for is Ike. She worried bout the way things might of been meaning she had a not very pleasant life before she meet Ike
Cleaned allot of plates in Memphis, Pumped allot of tane down in new Orleans, but never saw the good side of the city" In my opinion this is how she went to diff rent places and did different things such as acting but never saw the good side of the city. Meaning how she was abused by Ike and probably didn't enjoy performing with him and never saw the good side of being famous.
"big wheels kept on roll'in, Proud Mary kept on burning, And we roll'in, roll'in, roll'in on the river" The era was the song was the hippie era and hippies smoke marijuana, which is Mary. And while all this craziness was going on she was just go'in with the flow, down the river.
"If you come down to the river, I bet you gonna find people who live, You don't have to worry if you got no money the people on the river are happy to give" This relates to me by how I usually don't go or meet new people, because I'm a "boy in a bubble", but I got out of the bubble and meet new people that are very nice and happy
I chose Proud Mary and truly understand it now, Especially, because we had to write a 500 reason of why you chose this song and how it relates to you .Since in this project you had to chose a song and truly understand it I went through many song and found that the lyrics are kinda more important then the song itself. SO now on I really listen to the lyrics.

Proud Mary Lyrics
Y know, every now and then
I think you might like to hear something from us
Nice and easy
But theres just one thing
You see we never ever do nothing
Nice and easy
We always do it nice and rough
So were gonna take the beginning of this song
And do it easy
Then were gonna do the finish rough
This is the way we do proud mary
And were rolling, rolling, rolling on the river
Listen to the story
I left a good job in the city
Working for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleep
Worrying bout the way things might have been
Big wheel keep on turning
Proud mary keep on burning
And were rolling, rolling Rolling on the river
Cleaned a lot of plates in memphis
Pumped a lot of tane down in new orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
Till I hitched a ride on a riverboat queen
Big wheel keep on turning
Proud mary keep on burning
And were rolling, rolling Rolling on the river
If you come down to the river
I bet you gonna find some people who live
You dont have to worry if you got no money
People on the river are happy to give
I think you might like to hear something from us
Nice and easy
But theres just one thing
You see we never ever do nothing
Nice and easy
We always do it nice and rough
So were gonna take the beginning of this song
And do it easy
Then were gonna do the finish rough
This is the way we do proud mary
And were rolling, rolling, rolling on the river
Listen to the story
I left a good job in the city
Working for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleep
Worrying bout the way things might have been
Big wheel keep on turning

My Pop Music Project
My pop music project is on the one and only, Proud Mary by Tina Turner. Proud Mary is about how a girl had an average life and never saw the good side of the city, until she hitch on a river boat. I think when she says she never saw the good side of the city, meaning how Austin is separated into two sides in this story. East Austin is where Armpit lives, Which is the not good side of the city. When she says an average life it means not a celebrity life, Until she went on a ride on a riverboat. The river being the current and how he got caught in the current, Which was a good thing, because if he hadn't got cought by the current he wouldn't of saw the good side of the city. Meaning, he wouldn't of meet Kaira, Doofus and wouldn't of been able to have such a good expeirance such as going to San Francisco.
